The McBain Board of Education filled two various vacancies during it’s meeeting on April 14.

“We had one board member, Kevin Kelley, resigned his seat,” superintendent Steve Brimmer said. “He purchased a house that’s just outside district lines so he had to resign. We posted an ad for the position and had one candidate apply.”

That person, Kevin Eisenga, was appointed to the vacant seat. Kelley had also been board secretary and the board appointed Phil Lucas to that position.

The board also watched a video presentation from the robotics club, coached by Dani Utecht.

“The students came in and answered questions and discussed their first year with the club,” Brimmer said.

Also during the meeting, the board expressed satisfaction with the progresson of the new auditorium.

In his report, Brimmer told the board phones will be switching from landlines to digital lines. He said a special ed. teacher opening has been created by two teachers going halftime each. He added that the food service audit proceeded well. He also presented the M-Step letter proposed to be sent home to parents.

The board appointed Mike Vandervelde as middle school boys track coach and Shaun Muller as JV baseball coach.

It was also announced that Austin Lucas will appear in the Michigan High School Football Coaches All Star Game in June. Students, including Kyler Eisenga, Shane Richey, Jackie Castro, and Jessica Jenema have earned scholarships for their accomplishments or performances.
