When the Marion school board voted to recognized three outstanding in education award recipients at its April meeting, Lisa Neuman was on the list.

She’s a para-professional at the elementary school. She’s had that position four years.

“I support whatever the teacher needs done whether it be reading intervention or even math,” Neuman said. “You work with kids that the teachers want you to support.”

Neuman works with all grades in her K-5 building. Previous to this, Neuman was a substitute teacher starting in 2008 in Marion and did a full year of preschool readiness programs before becoming a full-time para-pro.

Neuman lives in Tustin. She attended Mesick High School and graduated in 1987, and is originally from the Mesick area.
As a para-pro, “I enjoy reading with the kids,” Neuman said. “I like working with them and trying to bring out the best in them.”

She was “honored” to be recognized by the board for her performance as a para-professional.

Neuman is married and has three children, who all attended Marion schools. Two are in the high school and one at the elementary school.
