Area gearing up for an exciting weekend

The Greatest Nation On Earth will celebrate her 240th Birthday Monday July 4th. Despite facing many challenges over the years this grand old lady looks incredible for her age.

This weekend Northern Michigan will join the rest of the nation in celebration, so get out and enjoy the fun with your family, friends and fellow Americans. If you see a veteran or current member of the armed services make sure to say thank you. Remember it is through their sacrifice and those of many others we still enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.
Here’s look at this some area events.

Evart, MI:

The community of Evart really gets into the holiday spirit on Saturday July 2, 2016, 6:30 p.m. with The Journey Tribute Band performing at the historic Evart Depot during The Rock Show.

The sky comes alive up at dusk with ever-popular Fireworks display July 3, at the Evart Municipal Airport.

Independence Day, Monday July 4th kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with a 5K Run/Walk followed by the annual parade down Main Street at 11:00 a.m.

Holiday action wraps up from Noon-3:00 p.m. with “Party in the Park” Located in Riverside Park. The event will feature music by Jose the D.J., a dunk booth, mechanical bull & surfboard, Lions Club chicken dinner, pony rides, Evart Fire Department giant water slide, inflatables, strawberry shortcake and More!!

Harrison, MI

In addition to enjoying many lakes, and campgrounds people heading to Harrison this holiday weekend will have plenty to keep them busy as they celebrate our nations birthday. From yard sales to fireworks, Harrison has the weekend pretty well covered.

The new Veterans Freedom Park visitors center will be open Saturday July 2, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Hours Sunday July 3, and Monday July 4, are Noon – 6:00 p.m. The park is located on 200 W. Main Street across from the Clare County Courthouse.
On Saturday July 2, car and motorcycle enthusiasts can head over to VFW Post #1075 for the Car & Bike Show from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Admission is Free to the public however there is a $10.00 per vehicle registration fee for those wishing to show their vehicles.

In addition to the car and bike show there will be music, food, awards, prizes, raffles, and more. A cruise through town following the show will end with a delicious BBQ at the American Legion Post 404.

The annual pontoon boat parade will be held on Budd Lake July 2, at 7:45 p.m.

Looking to get a little relief from all that holiday stress then why not head over to the Clare County Fairgrounds Sunday July 3, for an old fashion smash and crash demolition derby at 7:00 p.m. in front of the grandstand. Admission is $10.00 ages six & up, $5.00 ages five & under. Fireworks will follow.

The Independence Day Celebration wraps up Monday July 4, with the annual parade scheduled for 11:00 a.m. sharp. This year’s theme is “Superhero’s” Line-up at the Clare County Fairgrounds begins at 9:30 a.m.

Lake George, MI

Fresh off a successful car and bike show June 18th the little town of Lake George comes alive once again with their annual Fourth of July parade set for 12:00 Noon Sunday July 3. Line-up will take place at the Luke Hamlin Ball Diamond at 11:25 a.m. For more information call Nancy at 989-588-2025.
