The 77th Annual Marion Fair came to a close last Saturday night with thunder, sparks and the roar of high-powered engines as modern day gladiators battled for supremacy in the USA Figure 8 Demolition Derby.

The fair, which began Monday June 20th at the Marion Fairgrounds, featured old-fashioned grandstand entertainment, home arts, large and small animal exhibits and competition. Friday’s ever-popular Market Sale auction once again brought in another eager bunch of bidders looking to stock their freezers with a champion beef, hog or pick up a nice animal for the family.

A short opening day thundershower during small animal competition was about the only blemish on the fair this year. Thanks to hard work and dedication by volunteers and board members this year’s fair was a complete success. Plans are in the works for a bigger and better Marion Fair in 2017.
