Evart Middle School principal Jason O’Dell has had an interesting summer.

O’Dell was with a group of 14 from Calvary Baptist of Evart for a mission trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil, and returned earlier this month.

“We worked with a missionary couple there,” O’Dell said. “We led a Vacation Bible School and networked with the kids. I led games and other people did crafts. Our church goes every five years. This was the third time our church has gone. Five years ago, we worked on the footings for the actual church because it hadn’t been built yet. When we returned, the actual church structure was up and we got to use the building we did the footings for.”

Jason O’Dell recently returned from a missions trip to Brazil.

O’Dell said it was his third trip to Brazil and was a special one for his family.

“We were gone almost a month,” he said. “My family hosted exchange daughters from Brazil so we went and visited two of them.”
Odell was in Brazil during that country’s winter period, when the temperatures are still in the 70s and 80s.

“For them, it’s cool, they had long sleeves on and they wouldn’t think of swimming in the pool because it’s not warm enough,” Odell said, adding that summers feature temperatures in the 100s “and it’s humid like Florida would be.”

It was an enjoyable time and O’Dell foresees returning to the country at a later date.

“On our way back from the airport, we saw the Olympic team from Nigeria and the team from Kyrgyzstan,” Odell said. “The Olympic Torch was en route to Rio and came through the city we were  in. So we went to see the torch as it was being run through Rio. That was a once in lifetime opportunity. I videotaped it of course. It was very good.”
