It’s called Anchor Wizard and it’s a proud product of the VanScoyoc family of rural Marion.

Kameron VanScoyoc and his family had the product on display during a recent fishing contest sponsored by the Village of Evart.

The product has the slogan, “Stop yanking, start cranking.”

Kameron VanScoyoc is incharge of marketing for the Anchor Wizard while his brother builds the units in the family owned and run business.

The product can be used in fresh or saltwater. The package notes that by turning the anchor counterclockwise and dropping the anchor the user has the ability to regulate the speed by turning the handle clockwise.

The VanScoyocs have their own machine shop 10 miles north of town at 90th Avenue and 15 Mile Road, near Hicks and Sunrise lakes.

“My dad designed it 10 years ago and my brother and I kind of took it over about five or six years ago,” Kameron said. “I started doing all the marketing. My brother builds them. I build them too but he machines them. We made it our own product. I market it all across the United States. I have it like in 53 stores. I’m advertising it up.

“I’m doing it full-time right now. We’re open all-year round.”

VanScoyoc said he tries to do as much fishing as he can.

“When we’re busy, I don’t do a lot,” he said. “When we do fishing, we’ll do some salmon fishing in the Manistee River.”
