Attention administrators, teachers, other school district employees, parents, students and friends:

Summer’s just about over. Get ready for school.

That’s the atmosphere now at the school district.

Shelly Laughlin, the administrative assistant for Marion Schools, said the first day for teachers is Aug. 31, almost a full week before the first day of classes.

“Also that day, we’re having open houses at both buildings, the elementary and junior-senior high school,” she said.
The times are 4:30 to 6 p.m. and the junior-senior high is 5-7 p.m.

The first day for students is Sept. 6. It will be a full day. The day opens at 8 a.m. and dismisses at 3:15 p.m.
There will be a new band and music teacher with Emily Cannell.

Laughlin said information on the new bus transportation provisions for students is likely to be shared at the open house on Aug. 31.

She said the district’s transportation director, Brad Sikkema, will be available to provide information on the bus routes.
Sports seasons have already started at Marion but will continue in full force with the start of school.
