Harrison man dies in Mecosta crash

David Kolp, 55, of Harrison died Tuesday after the tractor trailer he was driving left southbound US-131, and drove into trees alongside the roadway.

The accident, which happened in Mecosta Township just south of 8 Mile Road, was reported around 10:26 a.m. according to a release from Lt. Gary Green of the Michigan State Police Post in Mt. Pleasant.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. In the release, Green said, “The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, however investigators believe the driver may have experienced a medical emergency which led to the crash.” Reportedly Kolp was found unresponsive at the scene and was later pronounced deceased at Spectrum Health Hospital in Big Rapids.
Lt. Green said the investigation is still underway.

MSP Troopers were assisted at the scene by Morley Fire Rescue, Mecosta-Austin Fire Rescue and Mecosta Emergency Medical Services.
