Marion Village council president Donald Gillmore likes how things went in 2016 and is upbeat as he and his fellow council members get ready to tackle the challenges of 2017.

“We got through 2016 in good shape financially,” he said. “Next year, it will be more of the same. We’re in much better shape financially than we were a few years ago. We had a couple of projects and we’re paying them off on time and they’re all paid off now. We’ll be interested in another project in a few years or so. We’re in good shape.

“The last project was a major drain project. The next one is our dam project and a couple of sewer improvements.”

The planning of the dam/millpond project would be started by this year.

The village has been handling winter weather and road maintenance so good so far, Gillmore indicated. The new village truck purchased earlier this year has worked out very well.

“It’s a nice piece of equipment,” Gillmore said. “It’s doing a lot better job on the roads.”
