We are meeting after school four days a week and on Saturdays,” she said. “We have signed up for two competitions: Kettering University on March 9-11 and Gaylord High School on March 16-18. Our team has expanded to about 30 people. We have divided the team into the mechanical, electrical, programming, and marketing groups.

“The Marketing groups have created an Instagram and Twitter accounts in addition to the Facebook page.  They are working on updating the website but that is still under construction.”

The McBain team is competing in the FIRST Steamworks robotics competition. This competition game, the FIRST website says, invites teams to adventure clubs from an era in which technology relied on team power to prepare their airships for the ultimate long distance race.”

Utecht indicated her students are participating after school for a few hours each day to work on their robots and get ready for a successful competition season.
