Evart city police chief John Beam Jr. recently recognized two law enforcement officers at a recent city council meeting.
Beam Jr. recognized Osceola County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jed Avery for his actions resulting in the arrest of the suspects involved in the May 2016 bank robbery of the First Merit Bank in Evart. A Commendation certificate and pin were presented by Beam to Avery and his K9, Ryker.
Beam also recognized two citizens who provided vital information to law enforcement that helped in the capture of these suspects.
Officer Patrick McClure of the Evart Police Department was presented by Beam a Certificate of Merit for his contribution in field training a new officer, for helping the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department in getting stolen property and narcotics and for successfully using “Stop Sticks” which ended a multi-county high speed vehicle pursuit and led to arrest of the suspect.
“The pursuit was started by the state police and we were asked to apply our stop sticks,” Beam said. ‘McClure had successful deployment, stopped the driver and he was taken into custody by the state police.”
The sticks “deflates a tire when they run over it,” Beam said.
