The Middle Branch Township board approved its 2017-18 fiscal year budget at its meeting on Monday.

“That was the main thing we needed to do,” township clerk Peggy Hoard said. “We tabled the five-year road plan but put Ron Austin (township trustee) in charge of the committee. He will form the committee to check out the roads, make a plan and bring it back in two months at our next meeting.”

The budget amount is down from last year, Hoard indicated. The board went over it line item by line item.

A local couple, Patrick and Brenda Leonard, addressed the board and voiced concern over not having playground materials at the township hall.

“They’re willing to donate $1,000 for that if we’ll do something,” Hoard said. “It’s a concept for kids to be entertained with. We’re taking that into consideration.”

The matter will be discussed at the next meeting.

It was decided to get information on liability costs from the Michigan Township Association on the selling of trees or township property to help buy playground equipment.

The board discussed replacing the front door of the township hall. The amount to be spend before a vote was tabled.
Hoard was directed by the board to do the tire grant and dropoff for 2017 and to send to the insurance company.
