WISE is encouraging residents of Osceola, Mecosta and Newaygo counties to participate in a special event to bring awareness to sexual violence toward women.
The event is “Take a Stand and Walk a Mile for WISE.” It’s set for 6 p.m. April 27 at Hemlock Park in downtown Big Rapids. Event officials say the walk will include men walking in high heels.
All proceeds go to WISE.
Eric Wiltfang, the local advocate for WISE, said proceeds go directly to WISE and support for the event will help provide emergency response and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Osceola, Mecosta and Newaygo counties, and help advocate for change that will end domestic violence in area communities.
Various levels of sponsorship are available for businesses. Fliers on the event states: 1 in 5 women will be raped at some point in their lives.
“April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and WISE is working to make a change and to one day hopefully eliminate sexual assault from our communities,” Wiltfang said.
Individuals needing more information on how they and others in the county can participate in this event can contact Wiltfang at (231) 349-0114.
