Osceola County clerk Karen Bluhm has announced a decision the county has made on voting machines.

“Last week I formally reported into the State Bureau of Elections that Osceola County has chosen Dominion election equipment,” she said. “After much research into the three vendors: Hart, ES&S and Dominion, and a meeting with local township and city clerks, we have decided to choose Dominion.

“I feel that it will be the most voting friendly for our voters as well as cost effective for our county and local units of government.”

Bluhm noted that all three vendors came to the county and demonstrated their equipment while taking questions from county officials.

“We have had all three vendors come and demonstrate their equipment and answer questions,” she said. “I obtained bids from all three vendors, before sitting down with the local clerks to discuss the equipment. After discussion, those who attended the meeting, agreed that Dominion would be a good choice for us.

“To be honest, I like different features of each type of equipment, but unfortunately we aren’t able to mix and match. I am familiar with the vendor marketing Dominion equipment and they currently have been our service provider for our current election equipment. They have proven themselves over the years for their reliability, so I’m confident they will help us to make this a smooth transition.”

Bluhm doesn’t anticipate using the new equipment until 2018.
