, age 63 of Tustin, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 8, 2017 at her home following a struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and Lyme disease.

She was born in Cadillac on Nov. 21, 1953 to Herman & Marion (Mishler) Thomsen. Loretta married the love of her life Daniel B. Swiler on July 1, 1972, at the South Community United Methodist Church.

Loretta had worked in the office for K-Mart for over 27 years. She had also worked at J.C. Penney, Swiler Market, Swiler Sports Center and Bill Kibby Bakery. She was a member of the Highland Christian Reformed Church where she worked in the nursery, Bible School, and volunteered to bake and supply food to the church when the need arose. She loved her grandchildren and family. Loretta enjoyed baking, crocheting, cooking, working with the cows on the farm, and going to the Hughston Cow Camp and helping with the rodeo. She was secretary for the Michigan Ropers Association from 2005 to 2008.

Loretta is survived by husband, Dan B. Swiler of Tustin, Children, Amy Jo-el (Duane) Dykhouse of Tustin and Adam Daniel (Laura) Swiler of Tustin and her grandchildren, Garrett and Grant Dykhouse and Gracyn and Easton Swiler. She has many siblings, Eva Barnes of Cadillac, Erma Edberg of Tustin, Dick (Susan) Thomsen of Corruna, Nadine (Bob) Johnson of Swartz Creek, Don (Rose) Thomsen of Columbiaville, Alvin (Sherie) Thomsen of Cadillac, Colleen (Richard) McClure of Tustin, and Brian Thomsen of Tustin. The Thomsen in laws surviving are Bev Thomsen of Cadillac and Rich Davison of Swartz Creek. The Swiler relatives surviving are her father in law and mother in law, Richard and Arlene Swiler of Marion, in laws, Diana (Steven) Baker of Marion, Dennis (Cynthia) Swiler of Marion, Debra Boudrie and special friend Mike Erickson of Marion. Two of her special friends are Ben & Talli Franklin and Barb Witbeck of Cadillac. There are many nieces and nephews surviving.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, William Thomsen, Thomas Thomsen, Shirley Webster, and Donna Jean Davison.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at the Highland Chrisitian Reformed Church with Rev. Rod Kamrath and Seminarian Kathy Vana officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will take place in the Sherman Township Cemetery in Osceola County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Christian Reformed Church or Hospice of Michigan.
