The battle for the Missaukee Cup is just beginning, but through the first of four flights, the McBain Northern Michigan Christian golf team leads the way, thanks to a narrow win Monday at Lakewood on the Green.
The Comets shot a team score of 213, just ahead of Lake City which had 214 and McBain had a 246.
“This was as close of a match that I think I’ve ever been a part of,” NMC head coach Dave Skinner said. “I don’t believe we’ve ever won by just one stroke but if we have, it’s been a long time. NMC, McBain and Lake City have four matches together this spring and we are going to tally up the scores at the end to hand out the Misaukee Cup trophy.”
Leading the way for the Comets was Grant Pogue with a 49, Ryan Pogue hit for a 52, Tim Embertson had a 53 and Jonathan Eisenga carded a 59.
For the Ramblers, Kaleb Keathy led the way with a 45.
NMC was at Ogemaw Heights on Thursday, travels to Benzie Central tonight (Friday) and is in Kalkaska on Monday.
