Seedling sale Saturday

The Missaukee Conservation District reminds residents that the pickup for its seedling sale is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Baker College Trucking School on S. Morey Road in Lake City. Experts will be on hand to answer any questions about the seedlings. Free water testing for nitrates and nitrites will be available all day.

Various workshops will be offered during the day. At 9:30 a.m., forester Larry Czelustia holds a class on pruning saplings for form and timber. A session on food plots starts at 10:30 a.m. with Jeff Fewless. Invasive Species coordinator Vicki Sawicki has a class at 11:30 a.m. on Native Alternatives for Invasives in the landscape. After a repeat session on pruning samplings at 12:30 p.m., Sandy Wiltzer from Brushed Blessings leads a class in nature painting at 1:30 p.m.

The will be a limited supply of several types of seeding available for sale on the pickup day on a first-come first-serve basis.

The only workshops with a cost are the afternoon Natural Painting sessions.

There are also various types of products including Mosquito Barrier and compost bins available during the day. Round mulch mats are also available for helping to suppress weeds around trees.
