Two killed in fiery crash

A wrong-way crash on May 18 in Osceola County resulted in the death of two men, according to published reports citing a news release from the Michigan State Police.

The release said the three-vehicle accident took place on U.S. 131 near 20 Mile Road in Burdell Township mid-afterooon on May 18.

The released said the crash occurred with a vehicle going north in the southbound lanes on the highway.

The release stated a 43-year-old Paris man was pronounced dead at the scene and added that the driver of one of the other vehicles was a 62-year old man from Highland Park, Ill. He was first taken by EMS to Spectrum Health Reed City and then flown by helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The release said he died from his injuries while the driver and passenger of the third vehicle were not injured.

Police also reported in the release that the crash is still under investigation and they do not kmow if drugs or alcohol were a factor. All persons in the third vehicles were wearing seatbelts, the release indicated.

Osceola County undersheriff Justin Halladay said the accident was handled by Michigan State Police, which said in its release that it was assisted at the scene by Osceola County Sheriff’s Department, Oscoela County EMS, LeRoy, Tustin and Lincoln Township fire department, Reed City Towing and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
