The 78th Annual Marion Fair came to a close last Saturday night following a very successful run. While portions of the state were fighting floods and steady rains, the Marion area was coming away pretty much unscathed. Rain did strike the area, however most of the heavy downpours went north and south much to the delight of fairgoers and officials.

The fair, which began Monday June 18th at the Marion Fairgrounds, featured old-fashioned grandstand entertainment, home arts, large and small animal exhibits and competition.

Friday’s ever-popular Market Sale auction once again brought in another eager bunch of bidders looking to stock their freezers with a champion beef, hog or pick up a nice animal for the family.

After a brief absence the carnival midway returned to the fair providing a nice selection of rides for young and old.

Carnival rides returned to the fair this year much to the delight of fairgoers.

Thanks to hard work and dedication by volunteers and board members this year’s Marion fair was a complete success. Plans are in the works for a bigger and better fair in 2018.
