So much is positive at Marion Schools

Letter to the Editor_BannerDear Editor:

I am writing today about a lot of the POSITIVE things we are achieving in the Marion Public School system. First I would like to say congratulations to the 2017 Graduates.  Our Students received over $400,000 in scholarships at this years Awards Ceremony. I would like to also tell you that with a lot of long hours and hard work from our Staff and Administration, along with some wonderful guidance from Mrs. Pat Apfel from the ISD. We passed our site visit and all of the criteria’s set by the state to get our Title I and Title II funding. I would like to give a big thanks to all involved. again THANK YOU.

I would like to say that we have a great staff in our Elementary School. I try to advertise the fact of how wonderful, effective, and caring our Educators are. We have an over achieving PTO organization. I can’t believe the amount of successful work that the few of them can accomplish. We have a great, selfless, and hardworking Athletic Booster team. Whose work goes at times unnoticed, and without them, we wouldn’t have a lot of the things for sports that we do. I would also like to mention my colleagues on the School Board. I am very proud of the efforts that these volunteers have made both in and out of the school. Many of the youth programs we have, most of these members not only are a part of, they are also organizing and running them. The results are starting to reflect these efforts as the youths enter the upper levels of education and sports.

This year also had one of our favorite programs seemingly revitalized. Band and Choir, with the guidance of Ms. Cannell, produced uplifting responses from both the students and adults alike. I happen to witness a few of the concerts this year and concur this opinion. Our Wood Shop class, with the help of Mr. Schmidt and local Gentleman Philanthropist Ed Kirkby, sent a large number of students to the MITES state finals for wood working talents. Mr. Keeler, and staff had an amazing couple of seasons in the running arena with both Cross Country and Track. Mr. Mikulich once again, worked his magic and produced two State Track Meet medalists. Coach Lagrow and Coach Gugle, overcame many obstacles and laid the foundation for success for years to come in the Basketball programs. Mrs. Prielipp as usual, found major success on the Competitive Cheer mat.

Mr. Gillespie, had much to be proud about with the accomplishments of this year’s Baseball Team. Coach Pace, took his team to the District Championship. They had their best record in recent years. They had Three All Conference Players, which two of them are returning next year. To all of the coaches in our Little League Program. Our Travel teams are having a great deal of success. Currently the Girls Pony league has only one game that they haven’t mercied the other team. Most of this team will join the Varsity program next year.

And finally, the supporting community that makes Marion Great. Thank you for voting yes on the School Bond. Thank you for giving the kids the tools and environment that they need to succeed.

Now, isn’t this a lot more uplifting and enjoyable to read. To be honest, I had a smile on my face the entire time while typing this up. It’s amazing what can happen when people can do, when they work together.

Thank you,
Ryan Raymond
