Karsten Allen, like many other football players, opened the 2017 practice season on Monday.

Allen, an Evart senior, is a linebacker and offensive guard. He started both ways last season on a team that made the playoffs.

“I feel like we did pretty good,” Allen said. “We obviously could have done better. But we put a lot of effort into it.”
He’s looking forward to having a strong offensive season.

“I’m quick to pull,” he said. “I’m able to block my defender pretty well.”

Allen also hopes to have a strong season on defense.

“I’m quick to the ball and can make the tackle,” he said. “Both sides are OK. I like both sides and am able to hit people.”
This will mark his third varsity season. Last year was his best so far.

“We’re definitely quicker,” he said. “Probably we’re a little more knowledgeable.”

Monday was the first day of less than three weeks of formal practice before the Wildcats open on Aug. 25 at home against Fremont. A strong summer season was critical, Allen indicated

“It helps us bond as a team and get stronger mentally,” he said. “We have a couple of new kids.”

Evart hopes to be a Highland Conference contender.

“We’re pretty strong,” Allen said. “We have a lot of good receivers out there, with fast feet and hopefully that will help us in the long run.”

Allen is confident his team is ready for the hot days of August.

“We’ll drink a lot of water,” he said. “We’ll definitely stay in shape. We have to.”
