Osceola County Sheriff’s Department undersheriff Justin Halladay reported on an accident that occurred earlier this week in Highland Township.

Halladay said deputies from his office were dispatched around 3:50 p.m. on Sunday to a four-vehicle accident on M-115 near 19 Mile Road.

Halladay added that after deputies arrived, they assisted EMS and Fire/Rescue treating the injured. An investigation gathered information at the scene and indicated that a several vehicles were stopped on M-115 south/east bound behind a car that was turning left on 19 Mile Rd.

A Toyota Prius which was also southeast bound failed to stop for the vehicles and rear-ended a stopped Toyota SUV, Halladay said, adding this caused the Toyota SUV to hit the vehicle in front of it and then continued into the north/west bound lane resulting in a head on collision between the SUV and a small car that was going northwest on M-115.

Three patients were transported to the hospital by Osceola County and Missaukee County EMS and another transported from the scene by Aeromed.

All occupants were wearing safety belts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, said Halladay, who added the accident is still under investigation. He said his office was also assisted by Marion Fire/Rescue, Evart Police Department and Michigan State Police.
