Missaukee County administrator Precia Garland presented an USDA Grant application to the Missaukee County Board last week at its financial committee meeting.

The grant is for a rechassis project on an ambulance in the current fleet. The grant application was approved, and as required, a public hearing on the matter was scheduled simultaneously with this week’s board meeting. Garland is recommending the board move ahead with the approval of the ambulance project.

Garland reviewed a proposed grant agreement between the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Missaukee County for Regional Detention Support Services (RDSS) funding up to $5,000. The grant would fund services to be provided by the County for juveniles including electronic monitoring/home detention services, holdover services while youth are awaiting transport or placement, transportation for youth to detention centers etc., and RDSS mandatory training required of all persons providing the above services.

The grant period would be from Oct. 1, 2017-Sept. 30, 2018. The County Administrator would serve as the authorized designee.
Garland would also be necessary to amend P-14300 Required Screening for New Employees Policy to add “volunteers” into policy language.

Also required, Garland said, would be a corresponding budget amendment to accept the grant funds as revenue, and add an expense line for all grant expenditures.

Garland highlighted the fiscal year 2018 proposed budget and recommended the committee, provided there are no objections, approve the general and special funds budget, and to adopt the necessary Appropriation Act and Budget resolution.
