Learn about local food

At their annual meeting on Friday, September 29th, the Osceola-Lake and Mecosta Conservation Districts will be hosting a program on the benefits of locally grown food. The presentation will be held at the Paris Park Fish Hatchery (old fish hatchery building north of Paris Park) and begins at10 am. Speakers include John Ward of Ward Vegetables, Clinton Zimmerman of Red Fox Market, and technicians from the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). Topics will include the process of growing local food, the importance of healthy soil, and the nutritional benefits of locally grown produce.

Other events that will be taking place during the annual meeting from 9 am to 4 pm will be fall seedling pick up for those who placed an order and a director election for the Mecosta Conservation District. One position is open with the incumbent of this position, Don Henning, running for another four year term. You can cast your ballot at the annual meeting or vote by absentee ballot by obtaining a ballot through the Mecosta Conservation District.
