A scarecrow decorating contest will be among the features of the Main Street Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m on Saturday in downtown Evart.

“We’re doing the chili cookoff contest on Main Street,” Al Weinberg, Evart Downtown Development Authority director, said. “We have five restaurants that will be doing the contest.”

There’s the scarecrow contest featuring decorating 15 to 20 different scarecrows throughout downtown Evart, Weinberg said.
“We’ll be doing cookie decorating, line dancing, and chicken doo bingo where we put a chicken in a cage and sell tickets, for a dollar per number,” Weinberg said. “It’s kind of a fun 50-50 raffle. We have the Evart story walk happening, there’s also Evart rock painting. It’s just a fun Evart festival downtown.”

This marks the first year of the festival.

“We did the summer art festival and had a really good response to that and noticed a lot of shopping happening downtown and a lot of people came down to enjoy the art,” Weinberg said. “We thought that was such a success that we would try to keep a market presence with our festivals. Now we can take it to the next level so we have something in October…and have reasons for people to come downtown and shop.”

Evart is having the annual Monster Mash on Oct. 31, Halloween night, 5-7 p.m., featuring trick or treating on Main Street.
“A lot of different organizations will come down and businesses set up trick or treating on Main Street,” Weinberg said. “We have children’s and pets costume contest. That’s kind of fun as well.”
