Peterson late last week told the Marion Press he was in the Virgin Islands as a part of the hurricane response efforts in that region.

He was located in St. Thomas.

“It’s a mess, for sure,” he said. “It’s slow going, but we’re doing well.”

Peterson said he had been in the area since around Sept. 21.

“I hope to come home around Oct. 11,” he said.

Peterson added that his duties include leading 47 others in management teams managing staging areas for food and water, in helping those who have suffered from recent hurricane damage.

It’s been a few years since Peterson has served in a hurricane relief effort.

“It’s my first time on an island and not on the costal U.S.,” he said.
