McBain put a bow on its regular season Friday night, when it easily handled host Fremont 62-18 in a non-conference football contest.

“It was a good feeling to get the road win,” head coach Pat Maloney said. “The offensive line did real well and Alex Utecht made some nice audibles into some better plays off the Fremont defense alignment. It should give us some momentum. We were balanced enough mixing in the run and pass. Our defense played well but our special teams need a little extra time this week. We got rolling quick.”

The Ramblers took it to the class ‘B’ Packers right away, staking themselves to a 28-0 lead after the opening quarter. Cole Sieland had a 25-yard touchdown run to get things going and Auden Eling followed that with a 71-yard scamper to make it 16-0. Utecht tossed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Verberkmoes and Gavin Sieland romped in from 59 yards out.

At the half, it was 36-6, as Utecht found Verberkmoes for another score, this time with a 27-yard touchdown pass.

The third quarter started off with a bit of history. Gavin Sieland hauled in an interception in the endzone and returned it all the way for a 100-yard touchdown. Cole Sieland followed that with another touchdown, this time from 59 yards out to make it 49-6 and a Utecht-to-Verberkmoes connection on a 22-yard touchdown pass put it to 55-6.

The Ramblers closed out the scoring in the fourth with a Brett Kamphouse 22 yard touchdown run.

Leading the way on offense was Cole Sieland who had 12 rushes for 174 yards and two touchdowns, Auden Eling had seven rushes for 112 yards and one touchdown, Gavin Sieland had 59 yards rushing and Brett Kamphouse also had a touchdown. Quarterback Alex Utecht was three-of-seven passing for 93 yards and three touchdowns.

For the defense, Tristain Reed had 11 tackles and two sacks, Andrew Sikkema added six tackles and Chase Vandenbos and Sean Sikkema were good for three tackles and one sack apiece.

McBain (7-2 overall) heads to Lake City (9-0) tonight (Friday) for its division seven pre-district playoff contest.
