Osceola County commissioner Roger Elkins of Evart said the board is working to reach an agreement for medical examiner services.

Lisa Kaspriak, administrator of Mid Michigan ME Group, spoke with the board last week to discuss recent emails and phone calls from county officials who are looking for medical examiner services.

The group has proposed a four-year contract with the county for medical examiner services.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a contract to approve at our next meeting,” Elkins said.

The discussion came up during a meeting of the Health, Safety & Grounds committee. Elkins said discussion of improving safety at the county buildings is continuing.

“There is some money in the budget to start with (security improvements),” Elkins said. “I expect we’ll be doing something in 2018.”

In a matter related to his home area of Evart, Elkins said there’s been talk of a possible buyer for the former Deans dairy.
“There’s been no announcement at this point,” Elkins said. “I know there’s been no announcements at this point. I know there’s additional parties that have looked at it and made some repeat visits. It’s possible something could be coming along.”
