MSP drunk driving audit shows high numbers for Osceola

The 2016 Michigan State Police annual audit shows the mid-Michigan area having some of the highest numbers of drunk driving incidents based on population in the State.

Isabella County ranked highest in the area for alcohol or drug-related crashes with 72. Midland County was next with 66, Mecosta followed with 40, Gladwin had 37, Clare reported 29, Roscommon 24, and Osceola 22.

In the MSP top to bottom ranking of arrests for Operating under the Influence of Liquor and drugs, Isabella totaled 495, Midland 252, Clare I84, Mecosta 167, Roscommon 157, Gladwin 121 and Osceola 68.

Based on the number of arrests per 10,000 population, Isabella, Roscommon and Clare Counties topped the list followed by Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola.

In total crashes in the counties based on population, Osceola, Mecosta and Isabella had the most in the mid Michigan area, followed by Clare, Roscommon and Midland. Gladwin had the least amount in the area and was only followed by Menominee and Gogebic on the total state ranking.

In Clare County 128 injury crashes and 184 injuries listed, with three of those related to alcohol or drugs. The county had six fatal crashes with eight fatalities. Two of those were related to alcohol or drugs.

In Isabella County, 533 were injured in 383 crashes, with 40 injuries involving alcohol or drugs. Of six fatalities, half were alcohol or drugs related.

Gladwin County listed 135 injury accidents, 196 people injured with 31 involving alcohol, drugs or both. Of two fatal crashes one involved alcohol.

Mecosta reported 233 injury accidents with 21 of those involving alcohol, drugs or both. The listed two fatalities that were not involving alcohol or drugs.

In Osceola County 160 were injured in 119 accidents with 24 of those injured involving alcohol or drugs. Two fatalities were reported with one alcohol related.

Mecosta County injury crashes totaled 233 with 294 people injured. Of those 27 injuries involved alcohol or drugs. They had two fatalities, which were not related to alcohol or drugs.

Roscommon County listed 109 injury accidents with 154 people hurt. Of those 13 were related to alcohol or drugs. There were three fatal accidents in which five people died, with three deaths related to alcohol.
