The scoreboard wasn’t Marion’s friend in its road boys basketball game at Harrison Monday night. The Eagles, playing in their second contest of the year, were handled by Harrison, 85-12, though there were still plenty of positives on the night from their point of view.

“We lost to a tough Harrison team, they got out to an early lead and kept the pedal to the floor throughout the game,” head coach Steven Cooper said. “We did show some improvement from our home opener as far as not letting the previous play effect us. When we were able to get Harrison into a half court set, we had a lot of solid defensive possessions that made Harrison eat up a lot of clock and throw up a contested shot.”

The Eagles were led by Alex Sutton with six points.

The Hornets were led by Hunter Woolston and Cameron Ashcroft with 12 points apiece.

“It is hard to win a game with the amount of turnovers that they were able to capitalize on but Harrison is a good team and will compete in the Jack Pine Conference this year,” Cooper said. “But, even against a poor team it is hard to win games with that many turnovers. I was very proud to see the effort on the glass despite matching up against a much larger Harrison team.”

Marion (0-2 overall) hosted Manton on Wednesday, is in Lake City tonight (Friday) and hosts Bear Lake on Tuesday. The Eagles return to play after the new year on Jan. 4 at McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
