The Marion Village Council approved its 2018 budget at Monday’s regular monthly meeting.

The council had proposed a $300,000 budget from a work session last week.

“So the Marion Village Council, Marion Library and Marion fire departments are all set,”council president Don Gilmore said. “They’re all separate. But the village’s budget is $300,000.”

The village’s budget is about the same as it has been,” Gilmore said. “We have a beautification project for this summer, which is one of those things we want to do, Main Street beautification. We’ll be putting flowers on the lamp posts which a lot of villages do.

“It’s quite an involved thing. They have to be watered every day. That’s one of the things for the summer.”

The Snowfest is on Feb. 17 and is another major event, Gilmore noted.

“They use our park for the race track,” he said. “It’s a big deal here. They’ve had it for at least 10 years. It’s quite successful.”
