Missaukee Imagination library awarded $20k

March 8, 2018

The Wexford-Missaukee-Manistee Great Start Collaborative and Consumers Energy are pleased to announce the award of $20,000 to support the Wexford Missaukee Imagination Library. This makes a total of $154,000 that Consumers Energy has invested in Early Childhood programs through the local Great Start Collaborative over the past 5 years.

The Imagination Library provides a book in the mail each month to children birth to five years, whose parents choose to sign up. The only eligibility requirement is that the family live within the service area of the Wexford Missaukee Intermediate School District. The program serves about 2100 children each month. Since beginning in June 2013, the program has served over 3800 children and distributed over 92,800 books. The program is funded 100% through donations and 100% of all donated funds goes to buying and mailing books.

“We’re pleased to open an exciting chapter in the lives of thousands of Northern Michigan children by supporting this effort to inspire them to read,” said Brandon Hofmeister, president of the Consumers Energy Foundation. “We can build a bright future for the next generation of Michigan’s residents tomorrow starting right in the communities we serve today.”

The donation to the Wexford Missaukee Imaginatin Library will help provide a book a month to children who sign up for the service.
