DeMott, Haan named top students

Northern Michigan Christian School is pleased to announce the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the graduating class of 2018.
Salutatorian Tara “Ellie” Haan, the daughter of Mark and Jill Haan of McBain will graduate with a GPA of 4.16.  Ellie performed in the school musicals.  She has been involved in Noteworthy, the NMCS Honors Choir, for the past 4 years.  

Ellie competed on the Volleyball, Basketball and Track teams for the NMCS Comets, receiving Academic All-State honors in Volleyball and Track and is a Scholar-Athlete Award finalist this year. She received All State honors in Track as a 10th grader and received All Conference, Cadillac News Team, and All Area Honorable Mention honors in Volleyball her Senior year.  Ellie is a four-year member of the Student Council, which she served as President her Sophomore year, and is also a member of the National Honors Society, which she currently serves as President.

Ellie served the body of Christ alongside her church on missions in Nicaragua in 2014 and as a camp counsellor in 2017.  She served with Northern Michigan Christian School on missions in the Dominican Republic in 2017. Ellie will continue her studies in Music Education at Hope College with hopes of inspiring children and young adults in music.

The daughter of Chris and Linda DeMott of Reed City, Cami DeMott has achieved the honor of Valedictorian, with a grade point average of 4.24. Cami has performed in high school theater productions for 5 years and is a member of the NMCS Chapel Worship Team.

She has competed on the Forensics Team for two years and has served as the Student Council President for two years. Athletically, Cami has competed as an NMCS Comet on the Volleyball team for 4 years and on the Soccer team for 4 years. Cami served the body of Christ on missions in the Dominican Republic alongside her classmates in 2017. She is also active in the Reed City Church of the Nazarene and their youth group. Cami plans to attend Olivet Nazarene University in the Fall to pursue degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish.

Northern Michigan Christian School wishes both of these outstanding students success and the Lord’s blessing in their future endeavors. We invite you to join us in honoring them and the entire graduating class of NMCS at commencement ceremonies on Friday, June 1 and 7:00 p.m. in the Comets Gymnasium.

    Watched you grow from just a little girl, and look at now. SO Proud of you to be Valedictorian of your class
