Connie Zuiderveen has been settling into her new role as Marion Village clerk since taking over the position earlier this month.

Zuiderveen had been treasurer seven years but was appointed to full-time clerk when her predecessor, Marsha Turner stepped down on March 31 after 47 years.

Jennifer Tucker was appointed to the part-time role of treasurer.

“It’s going pretty good,” Zuiderveen said. “Marsha helped me a lot before she left. I worked with her in the office the last seven years. She helped me a lot and showed me a lot of stuff.”

The fact the clerk’s role is full-time was a main incentive for Turner to take the position.

Zuiderveen is from Marion. She’s also Marion Township clerk.

“The village is not elected, but the township clerk is,” Zuiderveen said.

The township board recently approved its budget, Zuiderveen noted.

“We’re going to put the road millage back on the ballot for this year,” she said. “It ran out in 2017. We’ll have it on the August primary ballot. It’s a renewal. Whatever money we get for that goes into roads.”
