Carey, Eychner named Marion Co-Valedictorian

Marion Public Schools has announced the Co-Valedictorians and Salutatorian of the graduating class of 2018.

Erick Carey, son of Brenda Witbeck and Jeff Carey, is the co-valedictorian of the graduating class of 2018 earning a 4.0 grade point average. He is a member of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, and has served as class president all four years.

Erick has competed on the Varsity Baseball, Basketball, Track, and Football teams receiving All Area Running Back, All Conference Running Back, All Conference Defensive Back, All State Honorable Mention honors.

His advice to other students is, “knowledge can be taught. Be humble, and the working comes from you.” In the fall, Carey will attend Michigan Technological University.

average. She is a member and president of the National Honors Society and a member and current executive board member of the Marion Peer Advisory Council of Teens. She volunteers at Resurrection Life Church in Cadillac working with 2-3 year olds. Brette contributes her high school success to her parents’ constant encouragement and support. Her advice for underclassmen, “your grade point average follows you forever, so put time into it; that being said, it does not define you, so take care of your mental health first.” In the fall, Brette will attend Michigan Technological University.

Brooke Gillespie, daughter of Kurt Gillespie and Lisa Gillespie, has achieved the honor of being named salutatorian of the graduating class of 2018 with a 3.99 grade point average.

Brooke is the current vice president of her class, a member and current president of the National Technical Honor Society, and a member and current vice president of the National Honor Society. She is a 7-year member and current president of Students Leading Students and a 4-year member of the Marion Peer Advisory Council of Teens.

Brooke has competed in Varsity Sideline Cheer, Competitive Cheer, Volleyball, and Track. She contributes her success in high school to her amazing teachers and supportive parents. Her advice for underclassmen is, “Get your work done because you will eventually have to do it.”
Brooke will be attending Baker College of Cadillac to finish the Early Middle College program and earn an associate degree in Business Management Administration.
