Lady Eagles crowned district softball champs

The McBain softball team had little trouble in its district tournament on Saturday. The Lady Ramblers racked up a pair of mercy wins to claim the division three district crown at Grayling, with victories over Lake City and Roscommon.

“This is an amazing group of ladies and I believe this weekend showed them to the potential of their talent,” head coach Tricia McGillis said.

McBain topped Roscommon 18-3 in the championship game, where Nicole Ford got the win. She gave up three runs on six hits and struck out three batters in the six inning contest.

Brandy Dodde had three hits and four RBI, Bailey Schierbeek added four hits with Emma Boonstra, Karley McGillis, Taylor Schonert, McKenna Gilde and Paige Vandenbos all getting at least one hit each.

The Ramblers reached the championship game with another six inning mercy win over Lake City, 17-4.

Gilde was the winning pitcher, giving up four runs on eight hits, eight strikeouts and one walk.

Dodde had four hits in the win, Schonert, Emma Barton, Kayla Roby, Schierbeek, McGillis, Vandenbos and Gilde all had at least two hits.

McBain heads to regional play in Standish-Sterling on Saturday, against Farwell. Meridian and Reed City play in the other semi-final.
