Marion’s fantastic season on the softball field came to a sudden end on Saturday. The Lady Eagles, fresh off a district title and 20-plus win regular season came up short against a strong Frankfort squad however, 11-0. Frankfort, the division four regional host went on to win the regional championship later in the day with a 6-5 victory over Holton.

“They hit the ball very hard,” head coach Ryan Pace said. “We threw strikes and they got hits and we only had two hits for the game.”

The Eagles finish the season 21-10 overall and claimed their first district championship since 2011. Pace is hoping the program continues this strong play next year.

“Winning districts was a big accomplishment for the team and the program going forward,” he said. “We had a good season, now the girls know how to win and they are hungry for more. I have several girls playing travel and summer ball. They are ready to work hard in the off-season. We do lose three seniors but return 10 players. The there seniors (Hannah Hopkins, Allison Deboer and Lena Hall) will be missed, they have been with me since the beginning.”
