Conservationists educate 20th Century Club on invasive species

July 12, 2018

The 20th Century Club recently hosted the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts for a presentation on Invasive Species.

Program Coordinator Vickie Sawicki, along with Jenna Johnson, met with club members in the community room of the Marion Village Hall, to give insight into some of the local invasive species and what’s being done to combat their spread.  Sawicki and Johnson also discussed details on a $100 award program designed to help root out the unwanted plants.

According to the MACD, invasive species – including local examples such as the Japanese Barberry and the Oriental Bittersweet Vine – can cause harm to the environment, the economy, or even human health.
