The spillway project at the Marion Dam is on.

Village council president Don Gillmore announced from the meeting on Monday trustees finalized and accepted the proposal to redo the spillway at the dam.

“It’s a $150,000 project,” Gillmore said. “So far we have about $90,000 in grants. The important part is we’re going to try to raise the rest of it from the community by donations. We’ll have a number of different fund-raisers.

“The community wants to do the job this spring to raise the money. We have a good deal of confidence in this.”

Once the project is completed, “it will allow us to meet the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) regulations for water flow at our dam,” Gillmore said. “You have to have bigger spillways all the time. It will allow us to drain the pond, which is a long range plan and remove the muck out of there. It would make it boatable and fishable. The dam is over 100 years old.”
