Marion schools superintendent Chris Arrington continues to settle into his new position but has been around long enough where he likes to give credit where credit is due.

“I’d like to give a pat on the back to Kelly Smith, president of Baker College in Cadillac, and Mary Jo Binckley,” Arrington said. “Those two ladies got some new chairs and donated them to Marion, 100 very nice professional-grade office chairs. I don’t know exactly what the value of those chairs are. But I know we had some staff say the last time we bought chairs, they were about $100 each. If you do the math, that’s like a $10,000 donation.

“The Marion teachers all got new chairs. We had some left over so we lined up a couple of labs for kids with them. We can’t pay them but we can give their names out in a positive manner.”

The next board meeting has been changed to Oct. 18.
