McBain bumps substitute teacher pay

MCBAIN — The McBain Board of Education approved at its recent meeting hiking the pay for substitute teachers from $80 to $100 per day.

Also at the meeting, the board accepted the recommendation of R.C. Hendrick & son to hire Pitsch Companies for building demolition.

“This is the demolition of four district-owned buildings in order to build the preschool building,” superintendent Stephen R. Prissel said. “The Preschool is made possible by a community member donation.”

The board also moved to change the Professional Development days on Nov. 1 to Nov. 2 and to change Parent Teacher Conferences from Nov. 8-9 to Oct. 25-26.

A motion was made to approve the bus agreement with Northwest Michigan Community action and to approve the authorizing resolution for state borrowing of funds.

“This is our agreement to lease a bus to this organization for transportation of students,” Prissell said. “This is the organization that runs Head Start and GSRP programs in Falmouth.”

The board approved a recommedation from athletic director Shaun Mulder to hire Ryan Pace as assistant varsity football coach.
The board also voted to have Shannon Smith appointed as the new board member, replacing Cindy Sieland.
