The Marion boys basketball team started the new season on a winning note on Tuesday. The Eagles, who were hosting Cadillac Heritage Christian in a non-league game used a strong defensive effort and a steady offense to pull off a narrow 35-30 victory.

“It was a close game down the stretch and a young Heritage team was able to sustain runs and be in the game at the end,” Marion head coach Steve Cooper said. “We were able to seal the game down the stretch by sinking some important free throws.”
Leading the way was Treigh Switalski with 13 points, Chase Ryan had eight points and Ryder Hall netted six.

“Alex Sutton and Thomas Jenema had great all-around games and freshmen Ty Baker and Keegan Baldwin contributed with great minutes in their first varsity contest,” Cooper said. “Jon Stahl and Christian Stewart also had key stretches during the game.”

Marion (1-0 overall) plays at Bear Lake tonight (Friday), heads to Baldwin on Wednesday and hosts Walkerville on Friday.
