The Evart Downtown Development Authority is getting ready for Christmas.

“Our first event will be this Saturday with our Christmas Carnival at Crossroads Church and in that area by the depot,” Bryan Tiedt, DDA director, said. “We’ve got Santa Claus and rides for the kids and stuff like that, hot dogs and all the fun stuff. Crossroads Church is handling that for us.”

On Dec. 8, the DDA will have Evart’s Christmas tree lighting across from the post office. The tree lights will be turned on.
These are among Evart’s most popular outdoor activities. Tiedt said. “The Christmas carnival, everyone comes down to see Santa Claus. We put Santa Claus in the historic depot. There’s all kinds of fun things, all kinds of events for the kids.”
Activities will slow down a little bit after the holiday events, Tiedt noted.

“We’re part of the Michigan Main Street program, and will do things like a Main Street mixer for our businesses and other activities,” Tiedt said. “We’ll try to focus on our businesses in January and February and get our strategy in place for next year. We have a meeting coming up in February with our Main Street program for our strategy the next five years.”
