Osceola County Commission chairman Larry Emig said on Wednesday Commission on Aging director Scott Schryer is no longer serving in his position.

“The current director was let go and he’s a nonelected department head,” Emig said

After a closed session at Tuesday’s commission meeting, Emig confirmed a motion was approved to do an independent investigation into COA operations.

“We’re already doing a review of our EMS department,” Emig said “We’re tying this in as well…for an independent review of those departments.”

Emig said county coordinator Susan Vander Pol, Schryer’s supervisor, met with Schryer earlier in the week, and made the decision for dismissal.

“He was dismissed for a number of things over a period of time in terms of job performance,” Emig said, while declining to elaborate.

Schryer, Emig said, had served as COA director for about seven years. The process of finding a replacement will hinge on the departmental review, Emig added.
