‘Tis the season to be giving out Christmas bonuses.

Marion Village trustee Roger Pritchard said the council at Monday’s meeting agreed to a Christmas bonus for the employees.
Calvin J. Ellens, a new trustee elected in October, took the oath of office.

County commissioner Jack Nehmer attended the meeting to give a county news update and talked about the demolition project of the old Marion hotel.

“They’re still in the process of tearing that down,” Pritchard said. “The county has contracted it to be torn down.”

Pritchard is among the village officials who has been heavily involved in the millpond/dam renovation project.

“We’re still raising funds for the project,” Pritchard said. “The final drawings have been completed and turned into the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) for approval. We’re hoping everything turns out well and we’ll be putting it up for bids probably in February. We’re hoping to have enough money. We put in for a grant and are hoping to hear back on that. But we probably won’t hear back until April.

“We’ve hired a part-time employee to help with snow removal this winter.”
