That was easy. The McBain girls basketball team hosted non-conference Montabella on Tuesday and the Lady Ramblers had no problem with the Lady Mustangs, claiming a 64-19 victory.

Signs of the blowout were evident early as the Ramblers led 22-1 after the first and led 34-8 at the half.

Olyvia Nederhood had 14 points to lead the way, Leah Neverth had 13 and Ashley Schierbeek added eight.

On Friday McBain hosted Highland Conference opponent Beal City, and picked up another lopsided win, 61-23.

It was a 14-4 lead for the Ramblers after the first, 33-7 at the half and 46-16 entering the final stanza.

Emma Schierbeek had 10 points to lead the way, Brianna VanHouten and Neverth added eight points each. Cooper Agema, Nederhood and Ashley Schierbeek had six points apiece.

“Both games we got off to quick starts and played with high energy for 32 minutes,” head coach Drew Bronkema said. “All 12 girls got in both games and played solid minutes. A majority of the team scored in each game as well. It was nice to get all the girls in each of these games because of our newcomers mixed with our underclassman. It allows the new girls to get accustomed to the physical and mental speed of the game. As a team, we need to learn how to play better defense without fouling, to limit the amount of free throw attempts we give up per game. The other thing that we need to improve on as a team is to value the basketball. The amount of turnovers we are averaging per game this year, is way too high.”

McBain (3-1 overall, 2-0 Highland) hosted Mt. Pleasant on Thursday and hosts Pine River on Jan. 3.
