McBain’s bid for an undefeated season came to a narrow end Monday night. The Ramblers, hosting Clare in a non-conference boys basketball game, came up painfully short in the battle, 53-52.

The Pioneers led 14-11 after the first quarter, though the Ramblers swung back to pull ahead 29-23 by the half. McBain held as much as a 10 point lead in the third but saw that dwindle to a slim 41-39 edge entering the fourth quarter, where they eventually let that fully slip away.

Garrett VerBerkmoes led the team with 20 points and Logan Rodenbaugh put in 17 points.

On Thursday, Dec. 13 the Ramblers notched a home Highland Conference win over Beal City, 56-43.

The Aggies hung with the Ramblers through the first quarter, with things knotted up at 13-13, with McBain taking a slim 23-19 lead at the half and 37-31 entering the fourth.

Leading the way was Rodenbaugh with 15 points, Devin Morris had 11, VerBerkmoes netted 10 and Connor Murphy scored seven.

McBain (6-1 overall, 2-0 Highland) returns to action Jan. 4 at home against Pine River.
