Evart Downtown Development Authority director Bryan Tiedt said another Michigan Main Street training meeting is set for the Board of Directors, and strategy will be finalized.

The last strategy training program is set for Feb. 14, Tiedt said.

Among the strategies are bringing in new businesses and expanding existing businesses, Tiedt said.

“We did a market analysis in July of last year and as a part of that. we did zip code surveys,” Tiedt said. “We did analysis of what communities want and had a community meeting where they said this is the type of thing we’d like to see. From there we’ll look to get local businesses to consider moving into this type of product.

“Once we get our strategy done, then we’ll be able to access other programs for our Main Street folks.”

Tiedt said among the stores people would like to see are convenience shops so they don’t have to go out of town to buy simple items like blue jeans.

“They don’t have shoe stores and that’s something stores can expand on,” Tiedt said. “Restaurants and bakeries with an ice cream shop are another thing. They’d like to see antique shops. We’re probably one of the only towns that doesn’t have a small antique shop. I think home convenience is something we’ll focus on this year, plus apartments, something where you can stay in town.”
