McBain turned up the defense in its home Highland Conference girls basketball game with McBain Northern Michigan Christian Friday. The Ramblers weren’t able to hit the 30 point mark but still came out with a 28-21 homecoming night win.

“It was good to get a win after dropping three straight,” head coach Drew Bronkema said. “We held their two post players to five total points. As a team collectively, we played very well as a team and were locked in mentally with our helpside and rotations.”

The Lady Comets led the game 9-4 after the first quarter but the Lady Ramblers tied it up 13-all by the half and inched ahead 20-18 entering the fourth.

Brianna VanHouten led the team with 12 points and Emma Schierbeek netted seven.

“VanHouten hit a huge three in the fourth quarter to extend our lead to four which forced NMC to expand their packed zone,” Bronekma said.

McBain (6-4 overall, 4-2 Highland) hosts Evart on Tuesday, heads to Beal City on Thursday and makes the trip to Frankfort Feb. 4.
