Marion couldn’t find its offensive touch in its first game back after the new year Friday night. The Eagles, hosting Mason County Eastern in a Western Michigan ‘D’ boys basketball game, 55-22.

Marion came out of the gates slow, trailing 11-2 after one. That lead grew to 25-12 by the half.

“The first half actually had us getting good looks, but the shots weren’t falling,” head coach Steve Cooper said. “Mason County Eastern got a lot of second chance opportunities on the offensive glass. In the second half, they were able to turn us over in a half-court trap that we didn’t handle well. We look to rebound this week.”

Brandon Stuart had 11 points and Ryder Hall netted six.

Marion (1-7 overall, 0-7 WMD) hosts Mesick tonight (Friday), hosts McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Monday and heads to Big Rapids Crossroads Friday.
